New Features: Profile Photos & Facial Recognition

New Features: Profile Photos & Facial Recognition

We are excited to show off our new features: Profile Photos & Facial Recognition! Following our recent geofencing launch (Check it out here!), we’re bringing you another tool to boost accuracy and accountability.

Facial recognition in CrewTracks is here to make buddy punching a thing of the past!

What is Facial Recognition?

Facial recognition is a quick way to confirm that the correct person is clocking in and out. Our system will quickly scan the face in each clock punch photo to determine a match against the employees profile photo and report if the face matched.

How to use Profile Photos & Facial Recognition

You’ll find the Facial Recognition settings in your Organization Settings. It’s a simple on/off switch. To use it effectively, remember a few things: you will need to be using our Photo In/Photo Out feature, and each employee needs a profile photo. That profile photo needs to be a clear, single shot of their face – no sunglasses or blurry images! Something to keep in mind as you are setting up profile photos in the employee edit dialog is, you can upload photos or you can use existing clock photos to save time – just make sure their face is clearly in the picture!

With our support of Employee Profile Photos, CrewTracks will no longer show the most recent clock photos next to employees. A blank profile photo will be shown until profile photos are set for each employee.

For an extra layer of security, you can also turn on Live Face Detection. This makes sure the person clocking in or out is present, not just someone taking a photo of a photo. When clocking in or out on the CrewTracks mobile app, the camera will quickly scan for a face. If live face detection is on, a little movement might be needed to confirm it’s a live person. Once a match is found with the employee’s profile photo, you’ll see a confirmation. It takes just a few seconds for the photo to upload and be analyzed. If the face doesn’t match, you’ll get a clear “Face Mismatch” alert. Check out the video below to learn more about this!

In the CrewTracks office view, you’ll easily see the results of the facial recognition checks. A green checkmark means a successful match, while a yellow warning sign indicates a potential mismatch. Clicking on a mismatch will even show you how low the percentage of the match was. You’ll see these indicators in your schedule and clock status reports.
